Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit

  • Wisdom: it is the capacity to love spiritual things more than material ones;
  • Understanding: in understanding, we comprehend how we need to live as followers of Christ. A person with understanding is not confused by the conflicting messages in our culture about the right way to live. The gift of understanding perfects a person's speculative reason in the apprehension of truth. It is the gift whereby self-evident principles are known;
  • Counsel (right judgement): with the gift of counsel/right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus;
  • Fortitude (courage): with the gift of fortitude/courage, we overcome our fear and are willing to take risks as a follower of Jesus Christ. A person with courage is willing to stand up for what is right in the sight of God, even if it means accepting rejection, verbal abuse, or physical harm. The gift of courage allows people the firmness of mind that is required both in doing good and in enduring evil;
  • Knowledge: with the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God. The gift of knowledge is more than an accumulation of facts, it also helps us to choose the right path through life;
  • Piety (reverence): with the gift of piety/reverence, we have a deep sense of respect for God and the Church. A person with reverence recognizes our total reliance on God and comes before God with humility, trust, and love. Piety is the gift whereby, at the Holy Spirit's instigation, we pay worship and duty to God as our Father, Aquinas writes;
  • Fear of the Lord (wonder and awe): with the gift of fear of the Lord/wonder and awe, we are aware of the glory and majesty of God. A person with wonder and awe knows that God is the perfection of all we desire: perfect knowledge, perfect goodness, perfect power, and perfect love. This gift is described by Aquinas as a fear of separating oneself from God. He describes the gift as a "filial fear," like a child's fear of offending his father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a fear of punishment. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. " (Luke 6:38).
• When you give, you get, you even get more than what you give
"There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty." (Proverbs 11:24).
"He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it." (Proverbs 11:26).
Lev. 19:9-10
It takes generosity for a man to plant 20 tubers of yam and when harvesting, leave 5 behind for those he does not know.
Acts 20:35
"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
* Jesus too was extremely generous. 2 Cor. 8:9
Heb. 13:2
"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
• These days people TALK without SPEAKING, HEAR without LISTENING; it is good to listen hard to these
• When a man is eating the bread of the stingy, he will remain poor
• To have and not to give is often worst than stealing
• Stinginess does not enrich, a stingy man will remain poor
• Of the various departments of Spiritual Intelligence, Generosity is the first
• When you are poor; if you are not able to give, when you become rich, you will not be able to give. IT IS A SPIRIT
===> I pray that that which you are holding on to that will make you prosper, may the Lord take it away from you in Jesus' name
• A small gift is better than a great promise
• In the history of the world, no one has ever been honoured for what they received but what they gave
• If yo don't give, you become a robber
• Abundant giving leads to abundant receiving
• The Mystery is this: those givers are like holes; the more they give, the more they receive
• If you are giving to get something back, you are not giving, you are trading
===> Anything that wants to be stealing from you, shall die in the name of Jesus
• Being generous is part of being spiritual; it is not just a nice thing to do, it is a fact of putting the gospel to work
– Generosity is dropping God in the lives of others
• One secret thing about generosity is that the children of the generous will always found helpers
– Generosity is love in action: every generosity and compassion has never been wasted, even if the person you are giving is ungrateful, heaven will never be silenced
– Generosity is a hard lesson to learn for many
– Generosity simply means, giving away what you have for others
– Generosity is the power that will fire us from the unhealthy group of the world
– Generosity is the freedom to choose to give
• Use your God's given power to bless others
– Generosity is not only in money, it can be in time, etc
– Generosity is that power to invest in that thing you are not going to collect
• You can make a living by what you get but you make a Life by what you give
• The real measure of your wealth is how much you worth when you loose all your money: True Wealth
– Generosity is loving people with our resources
– All of us have something that others need; it could be love, acceptance, support, time, listening hear. This is what we call Generosity
– Generosity is not only something you do but a description of who you are.
– Generosity is a virtue of giving freely without expecting anything in return
– Generosity is a God-like quality
i. It frees you from being enslave from money and in a mysterious way open doors to you
ii. It can bring you deliverance
iii. It can bring you wealth
iv. It can bring you prophecy that will move your life forward
===> Whatsoever you need to give up to release you into your wealth, let it be released in the name of Jesus
• Generous people are loosely attached to material things but kingdom things
===> Powers to unglue yourself from the power of this world will come upon you in the name of Jesus
• Our ability to give generously leads to our spirituality
• Giving is a ministry that arouses in what you have
• In other to live a blessed life, you must live a generous life
• Your gift may leave your hand but not your life
===> Your gift will locate you in Jesus' name
Prov. 28:27
"He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse."
Prov. 28:22
"He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him."
> Read the Bible well, the Bible has about 2,300 verses about Money and Possession but Faith is just about 500 verses and Prayers 500 verses
* See yourself as a RIVER and not a RESERVOIR
• Greed is the desire to acquire more than what God has plan for us
• Generous people don't put their trust in money
• It is the hand that gives that gathers
• One of the greatest power to connect to, is the power of Generosity
– Hannah
– Mary Magdalene
– Job
– Jacob
– Isaac
– the widow of Zarephath
– Shunammite woman who saw Elisha passing
– Lydia
– Joanna
• All generals in the Bible are generous people
• There can be no great destiny without generosity
• You generosity can wipe out your shame, reproach, calamity, insult.
• Generosity give access to divine direction. 2 Kings 8:1
• Generosity is a key of greatness
* Don't be like the dead sea. It is so salty that nothing can live in it
1. Give everything you have for Christ
2. Start where you are now
3. See every avenue to give as a cry for you to arise and shine. Don't wait to be pressured
4. Do not give as a result of what you expect back
5. Be willing to sacrifice

===> That spirit of generosity that opens door will come upon you in the name of Jesus
1. My Father, deliver me from strange battles, in the name of Jesus
2. My Father, accelerate my speed, in the name of Jesus
3. (Specially by the Holy Ghost, pray it 3 times) Powers, multiplying my jokes, die in the name of Jesus.

Having Sex with Just Anyone?

Proverbs 5: 16-17 (NLT) Why spill the water of your springs in the streets,
having sex with just anyone?
You should reserve it for yourselves.

Dear Mr. Endowed, they say you are very good on the bed and all the ladies keep coming back for more. In your mind as long as you use that condom you are safe but I bet you have never thought about Spiritually Transmitted Diseases (STD)s. STDs create soul ties, it prevents you from totally settling down or being faithful to any wo...man. That is the reason why you want Titi's breast and Lara's butt, you crave Lara's shape and Bisi's skin.

Another thing you did not think about are the chances of a leaking condom or being caught in the spur of the moment and deciding to go without condoms. Just that one time without a condom might be your undoing ; she may get pregnant.

The funny thing is the woman you are really crazy about is not always the one who gets pregnant, it's usually the troublesome and not so pretty one, congrats, you are about to be a baby daddy or you could decide to abort the baby; you could decide to commit murder.

What I want to ask you is this; is it really worth it? The STDs, the unwanted pregnancies, the abortions, the soul ties? How many times have you given money for an abortion? How many times have you laid on top of a woman and lied right in her eyes when she asked if you loved her? Your manhood is smeared with the blood of aborted babies and pieces of broken hearts.

Always remember, God is a God of Justice, He will send you a woman just like you, you will marry your kind. God will not send you one of His precious daughters so you can break her heart.
Change your ways so you can safeguard your future. God who created you instructed you to stay away from premarital sex because He knows it will cause you pain and truncate your destiny. Sow goodwill ahead of you, not curses. God will help us in Jesus name.

‪#‎Thank‬ ‪#‎you‬ for reading, please make sure you share this Gospel of Jesus Christ so that others can be blessed just like you have been blessed.

An Interesting Poem by Babatunde Kawthar

    Here they come

    Blowing peppered breath

    On our sore wounds

    Spurring saliva

    To water withered dreams

    They come like saints

    Albeit they are Judases

    Speaking of redemption

    Like he who was

    Washed by blood

    From the cross

    I am afraid to hope

    For their darkness can

    Shadow tomorrow

    The sacred calabash

    Of our future

    Its breaking

    As gloom at noon

    Becomes a norm

    We must smile

    Waiting for a tomorrow

    We might never see

About the writer: Babatunde kawthar is an engineering student of the University of Lagos who enjoys writing poetry among other things.
